The Instrumental Enrichment Program (FIE) originated in the 1950s, was intended as a systematic program to train thinking and improve independent learning for young people in a situation of school failure and/or deprivation" (Lebeer, 2022:25). Consequently, Reuven Feuerstein's teaching philosophy argues that educators should aim to impart bi-directional learning and thinking strategies, over a one-directional teacher-centric teaching and learning approach.
