Highlights
Purpose
Reflective writing writing requires that you think deeply and critically about an experience. At the centre of reflective writing is the "self" - including a deep analysis of you in relation to the topic. Reflective writing is a process that involves recalling an experience or an event, thinking and deliberating about it, and then writing about it. Registered nurses are required to reflect daily in their professional practice.
Task Description
In this task you will be reflecting on a situation when you or a friend or loved one experienced ineffective communication within a healthcare or work facility. You are required to use Gibbs' (1998) reflective cycle, to explain how this situation made you feel, and how now as a student nurse you will learn from this experience to grow your own personal therapeutic communication skills. You should connect your evaluation with theory (the NMBA, 2016 registered nursing standards for practice) and link ideas with what you have learnt in your coursework.
Additional Information
Academic Integrity MANDATORY Training Module - Mandatory completion of this module is required prior to submission of Assessment ONE. Non-completion of this will prevent you from being able to submit your first assessment item in this course. Complete this course to the very end, last page, for the Submission link to then be opened to upload your Assessment One.
Step 1: Task Understanding
Step 2: Reflective Thinking
Use this framework to reflect on an experience:
Description: Describe the experience as objectively as possible.
Feelings and thoughts: Describe your feelings and thoughts about what you observed/ experienced of the critical moments or event.
Evaluation: Evaluate the experience and identify both positive and negative aspects. Is there a connection between this and your discipline knowledge (NMBA Registered nurse standards), professional experience, or own skills? Have you experienced this before?
Analysis: What are the important factors underlying this experience? Why are they important to your understanding? Are there any other perspectives?
