Assignment Task

Purpose

Reflective writing writing requires that you think deeply and critically about an experience. At the centre of reflective writing is the "self" - including a deep analysis of you in relation to the topic. Reflective writing is a process that involves recalling an experience or an event, thinking and deliberating about it, and then writing about it. Registered nurses are required to reflect daily in their professional practice.

Task Description

In this task you will be reflecting on a situation when you or a friend or loved one experienced ineffective communication within a healthcare or work facility. You are required to use Gibbs' (1998) reflective cycle, to explain how this situation made you feel, and how now as a student nurse you will learn from this experience to grow your own personal therapeutic communication skills. You should connect your evaluation with theory (the NMBA, 2016 registered nursing standards for practice) and link ideas with what you have learnt in your coursework.
