Description: In the contemporary world, the farmers have stopped using their traditional methods of growing food and are following efficient food growing practices to grow more crops and fulfill the hunger demand of the growing population. However, despite such efforts, it has been observed that millions of people sleep on empty stomachs every day. According to an estimate, nearly ~9% of the global population sleeps on empty stomachs each night.The United Nations agency, FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), reported a loss of about 2.6 trillion dollars per year globally due to food wastage.The hungry segment of the population has been impacting the global economy in many aspects. Also, it has been giving rise to one of the most severe problems, malnutrition. Though these issues cannot be helped or alleviated at an individual level, every individual can take the initiative to increase the food supply and save it from being wasted. Hence, this research would focus on minimizing food wastage and serving the needy.After exploring the several works done in the same field, we see that many applications exist explicitly for food ordering and food donation, delivering the cheapest food to hungry people, etc. However, not everyone is aware of food donation applications, nor has it gained as much popularity as food delivery applications. Due to the pandemic, food delivery application has gained even more popularity. Going through the different works done in this field and noticing the popularity of food ordering applications in every country, we need to develop an integrated solution that can help join more hands and tackle this situation through a software solution. Nowadays, there are many foods delivery applications that also now enable users to order groceries. Considering the significance of these applications, I propose adding a new feature of donating food to an existing food ordering application. The application will allow usersto donate extra food left at parties and other social gatherings and restaurants to donate the unsold/ unused to needy people, NGOs, etc. This novel act will not only help us serve the hunger, but it will also help reduce the potential food wastage. Moreover, people struggle to feed their families after losing jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, even with a single meal. Therefore, they can also raise requests for donating them a meal(s) in the food application.To achieve the objective in this application, I would integrate several technologies. Some of the technologies decided to develop the application are Java, Spring, Hibernate, and Relational Database.
