Data Analysis and Visualization of Crime Data Assignment

Assignment Task

The goal of Assignment 3 is simple. Tell a compelling story using data visualization. You can choose your own story and data or pick from one of the approved topics below. Your assignment must follow the instructions and constraints below.

Your assignment must be an R-based, web-hosted dashboard, application, or interactive slideshow/storyboard. You can use static or interactive/animated plots. Reports and video presentations are NOT permitted. How you design and tell the story is up to you. However, the following restrictions apply

If you are short on time and a topic and dataset for Assignment 3 to get started, you can use one of the following approved topics. Crime Statistics Agency: Tell a story about crime using Crime Statistics Agency Links to an external site. (CSA) data. CSA is responsible for the independent analysis and reporting of crime statistics in Victoria.

Gender pay gap: Tell a story about the gender pay gap that moves beyond describing the gap into a deeper understanding of the data and what should be done about it. The WGEAL links to an external site. website is a good place to start for Australian-based data. However, there are likely many other great sources. 

Cost-of-living crisis/inflation: Tell a story about the cost-of-living crisis/inflation in Australia (or around the world). There are many data sources to consider. The Consumer Price Index (ABSLinks to an external site.) report is a great place to start. You can focus your story on specific costs, e.g., housing, rent, food, etc.
