TASK The aim of the unit is to lay a solid foundation for students wishing to pursue further studies in global Communication and Media Studies, as well as any other disciplines where communication plays a key role. As such, the unit introduces students to fundamental principles of communication, as well as communication and media in the global context; addresses the major forms in which communication appears in the various media, as language and discourse, visual representation, and digital communication; familiarises students with the main approaches and key concepts used in Communication Studies; trains students in the semiotic and sociological analysis of a range of different media; analyses the dynamics of international communication networks; makes students aware of the political complexity of global communication.
