Highlights
Students will engage with a video-taped interaction and develop a theoretically based understanding and assessment of the situation and the persons involved. Students should also develop a hypothesis and provide an analysis of their recommended intervention(s) based on their assessment of that situation. They will submit a written assignment analysing the scenario highlighting the relevant theories, values and practice skills that inform the intervention to demonstrate their learning from this module.
Further to the discrete sessions built into the module teaching and assessment guidance throughout the module, in terms of the assignment task students should:
1) Clearly state where they are focusing their assessment (for example the current situation as reported and observed or their assessment of the onset of the presenting difficulties) to highlight key themes and issues.
2) Draw on the theoretical aspects covered in the module and show their relevance to the selected case scenario. These are theories which may inform understanding, assessment, and intervention.
3) Engage with the process of hypothesis formulation and give a practice hypothesis.
4) Identify relevant intervention(s) based on their assessment of the situation.
5) Aim for a good level of analysis and demonstrate their knowledge of relevant academic literature and sources to support their discussion, argument, and rationale. Students should also demonstrate criticality and reflexivity.

3. Develop a critical understanding of diversity and difference and the meaning of cultural competence in practice.
4. Demonstrate the ability to use core practice skills of observation, communication, assessment and reflection, within practice-related situations.
