To do this, you will need to show innovative and creative thinking to identify issues related to developing a business strategy, what practices you may need to develop or adjust to accommodate changes in location and culture, desired target market, and differences in regulation or ethical standards. You will also need to show sophisticated team skills so as to use, to the full extent, the diversity of skills each of you have to research, negotiate and present your work.
Overview
As a team, create a business that you will pitch to a potential investor. Your choice of business will be based on one of the following two options:
An existing business from overseas that is not operating in Australia.
A franchise currently operating in a country overseas but not in Australia.
Important note: Your strategy must present a business case for commencing operations in Australia.
If unsure, seek approval of your chosen business from your eLA. Large multi-national franchises such as McDonalds or KFC are not permitted.
Your team will identify a business/product/brand from overseas and create a strategy to bring it to Australia. To complete this exercise your team will:
Research the company that produces your chosen product/brand. Identify areas where they impact SDGs both positively and negatively and the potential effects of bringing the product/ brand into Australia.
Focus on a business/brand/product which is either sustainable currently or able to bring sustainability improvements into Australia.
Choose a business/product/brand which Australian audiences will readily accept, i.e. a gap in the market or a stated need that is there from the target audience.
Produce a business strategy for bringing this business/product/brand to Australia, along with a marketing plan.
Conduct financial analyses to decide if the exercise is possible and/or feasible logistically.
You need to treat this assessment as if you were planning to set up a brand-new business which will bring this brand/product to Australia. You may distribute to existing retailers or set up your own concept stores.
