Highlights
Introduction
Describes the purpose of the problem solving task and briefly outlines how the task was completed. This should make sense to the reader without having the task sheet. You will need to state your observations and assumptions (these may be written as a list using a dot point format). You need to clearly explain how they are important or relevant to your task in order to meet the formulate criterion of “documentation”. If it is data or information you have gathered, you may include raw data tables, screen shots from websites or other supporting evidence in your appendix and refer to it in your explanations in this section.
Observations – these will include any data or information you required (collected, given in the task or found by research) to solve the mathematical problem.
Assumptions – these are conditions which you are stating hold true for the problem. These are not set facts that have been identified. These are factors which are assumed to be true, not known to be true. The mathematics you build rely upon these assumptions holding true.
Procedure
Outline the specific mathematical concepts and techniques you used to solve the problem and the specific technology you used to develop the solution (MS Excel, MS Word, Graphics Calculators, Apps, and Internet etc.).Solution should provide clear, logically sequenced written evidence of how you applied and used, accurate and relevant mathematical procedures to solve the problem. Include sub headings relevant to the specific task and how you are solving it.Accurate calculations and solutions need to be shown. If you are using known equations, clearly show original equations (at least once) before showing the calculation with substituted values and the answer. Include a key that defines any variables (with units) next to or above the original equation. Ensure you formatting and symbols follow mathematical conventions. Repetitive calculations can be included in your appendix.Include appropriate, labelled and properly constructed graphs, figures and tables of summarised data and refer to them in your text where relevant.
