Background work

You will be provided with data from video analysis that tracks the position of the hip marker for two participants who completed a standing horizontal jump, for maximal distance.

Using the spreadsheet, calculate the displacement, velocity and acceleration for each participant. This data will be used to answer tasks 1— 3. The completed spreadsheet must be included as an appendix to the work.

Task 1 (Equivalence of) 400 words

Present three appropriately formatted graphs for displacement, velocity and acceleration.

• Displacement against time for both participants.

• Velocity against time for both participants.

• Acceleration against time for both participants.

Task 2 150 words

Compare and contrast the differences in distance jumped, peak velocity and peak acceleration for the two performers.

Task 3 (Equivalence of) 250 words

Using the data at the point of take-off, calculate the velocity of release, angle of release and height of release for both participants

Using the supplied spreadsheet, calculate a 5 % increase in velocity of release, a 5 % increase height of release and a 1° increase & decrease of the angle of release. Describe the changes to performance (i.e. distance jumped), concluding which change has the biggest effect of distance jumped.

Task 4 800 words

Based on the above, how would you develop the performance of the participant who did not jump the furthest? This would include what you would change and why. How would you go about making these changes?
