1: Description
Assessment 1a Multiple Choice Quiz (Week 1 Content) The first quiz comprises 20 multiple choice questions, each worth .5 marks, for a total mark out of 10. You will have 30 minutes to complete Quiz 1a, and you will only be able to attempt the quiz once. This quiz covers the online content and readings from Week 1. The timing starts when you open the quiz, and the quiz will automatically save and submit after 30 minutes even if you have not completed and submitted it. This quiz provides an opportunity for early feedback on your understanding of key theories and concepts in this subject. The quiz will run online via the LearnJCU subject site and the test is open-book.
2: Description
This task requires you to produce a Pecha Kucha style (20 slides x 20 seconds each) PowerPoint presentation explaining three (3) key theoretical approaches from weeks 2 and 3 of the coursework. It also requires you to explain how these theories apply in real life environments, and the impact that this has on the people who interact in space, place, and time. For AT2 you should:
1. Identify and briefly explain 3 theories of interest to you from the Week 2 and Week 3 materials (a list of theories from each week are located on LearnJCU). There MUST be at least 1 theory from the Week 2 content, 1 theory from Week 3 content, and 1 other theory from either Week 2 or Week 3 content, with 3 different theories in total.
2. Find one static visual example that is representative of each theory you have chosen (1 visual example per theory = 3 visual examples). These can be personal photos, sketches, images of a news article, an image found online etc. Describe each visual element outlining what they are and why you chose them.
3. Reflect on your choice of visual elements including what the links to the theory are, and how the examples provided are representative of each theory by showing, for example, an influence on a space, place, or people who use or interact with it (this is the key reflective part of this assessment).
4. Create a cohesive narrative connecting your three entries/images. Whilst you are to choose three different visual elements and three different theories, consider how they may be connected to tell a flowing narrative.
5. Ensure you stick to the Pecha Kucha format (20 slides x 20 seconds), including 1 introduction and 1 reference slide. 20 seconds (or about 33 words) x 20 slides equals a maximum presentation time of 400 seconds. Check the Pecha Kucha website for inspiration on this presentation style.
6. Ensure each slide (except the introduction and reference slide) contains only 1 static image only (and its associated reference). Refer to the Assessment Brief video on LearnJCU for more details. Each image needs to be referenced (both on the slide, and in the reference list) according to APA7 guidelines.
7. Record the voice over using Panopto. Check the guides if you are unsure. You can also record in Zoom, or in PowerPoint saved as an MP4 and upload to Panopto if you prefer. No other submission formats will be accepted due to technical requirements.
8. Upload a PDF copy of your PowerPoint slides. Instructions on how to create a PDF of your slides, and upload them to LearnJCU, are located in the AT2 "Assessment" folder.
