Assessment Description
The third assessment task is designed to bring your knowledge of environmental psychology principles, theories, and practice together and apply it to the evidence-based (must be linked to scientific research and guided by theory) design of a space. The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals identified for achievement by 2030 have all been impacted by the COVID 19 crisis. In the wake of the pandemic, we are faced with a world which is re-negotiating the concept of ‘normal’. The projects in this topic have been designed to illustrate the potential for psychological theories and knowledge to present potential pathways forward as the global community comes together to charter a resilient and sustainable future. Here we will focus specifically on SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. One of the issues researchers are currently focused on is the growth of cities and urban development. Current estimates suggest that by the middle of the century, 70% of the world’s population will be living in cities. To accommodate this growing population the design and development of resilient and sustainable cities which enhance community liveability, inclusivity and safety, promote health and wellbeing, and address growing environmental concerns will become an increasing priority. As an Environmental Psychologist, you have been commissioned to design an area of a city or community focusing on evidence-based principles of sustainability and resilience.
