CRITIQUE OF THE PUBLISHED LITERATURE

Critique of the published literature comprises the progressive identification of literature relevant to your topic using the approaches to research discussed during your workshops. You will need to identify overall five different articles. The assessment requires one post per article – 500 words each.

1. Find one systematic literature review journal article relevant to your topic and discuss the benefits of conducting a systematic literature review as well as the methods/data used in this specific article (e.g., exclusion/inclusion criteria, number of articles reviewed) and the key finding and limitations of this specific research (e.g., from the perspective of your own topic).
2. Find, summarise and critique two credible peer-reviewed journal articles that use qualitative methods. Please note that you cannot use systematic literature review articles in this section. Include discussion on the following topics: research paradigm, question/s, sampling, data collection, data analysis, key findings, and critical evaluation of the limitations (e.g., from the perspective of your own topic).
3. Find, summarise and critique two credible peer-reviewed journal articles that use quantitative methods. Include discussion on the following topics: research paradigm, question/s (and hypotheses are applicable), sampling, data collection, data analysis, key findings, and critical evaluation of the limitations (e.g., from the perspective of your own topic).

ASSESSMENT REPORT

Task: Identify potential research questions and discuss how these may be addressed by research. In this part of the assessment, you will be developing YOUR OWN research.

1) Identify and describe ONE research avenue. Explain and justify the purpose and significance of this research, in particular what are you trying to achieve and the problem the research will solve in relation to prior literature on the field. For instance, based on examining the literature within your proposed topic in Part One, you should have identified potential gaps or possible extensions for research. Remember to support your arguments by using academic references. Formulate a broad research question that lends itself to different methods.

2) Explain TWO research frameworks you could use to address your research question. One of the frameworks must rely on a quantitative and one framework on a qualitative research method. The research must be feasible to conduct as a one semester long student project to examine your topic.

• Outline and justify the method you will be adopting to answer the research question. Explain the research paradigm that the research you are proposing belongs to.
• Explain how you would collect (including sampling) and analyse the data. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your proposed research framework.
• Remember to support all of your arguments and decisions by using academic references

ASSESSMENT PRESENTATION

Task: Prepare a presentation where you explain your preferred research framework from your assessment report (task explained above). Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your proposed research framework and discuss the relevance of the research paradigm to your specific field of study.
