You are require to develop 3D Model / Models of  substantial complexity, such as a building,a particular model of an aeroplane, locomotive engine etc. Model /  Models are developed according to the specifications discussed and agreed upon with the lecturer. You are encouraged to discuss your  modelling project in the class and write  down the specifications describing the level of detail modelled as geometry and the details / effects modelled through colour / bump maps. You are encouraged to present your proposals in advance.

Assessment Criteria Elements to be evaluated: 

•Written Report with required images: this report should describe different techniques that you employ to create your models, please provide in this report screen shots depicting the entire modelling process from initial primitive shapes to the finished product. 

• Geometry Creation: use of appropriate techniques to create the geometry of the model, i.e., wire frame / polygonal model.

• Texture Mapping: Adjustments of UVW coordinates, use of appropriate diffuse and specular maps, use of appropriate bump maps to create / simulate small details / use of transparency maps to create / simulate transparency.

• Lighting: Appropriate use of lights to create day light scenes with realistic sky and sun and the appropriate use of lights to create night scenes.

• Rendering: Appropriate use of a renderer; rendered images of: Object in daylight with physical sky, Object with daylight and sun in the background sky, Object in the night using Omni and / or spot lights.

Demonstrate the following:

1. Ability to work accurately to a set of reference images.

2. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate modeling, lighting and rendering techniques.

3. Ability to add detail where appropriate.

Learning Outcomes:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental concepts, principles and techniques of modelling structures in a 3D space.
• Use an industry standard 3D modelling and animation package to produce simple 3D Graphics.
