Highlights
This assignment is designed to assess the following learning outcomes:
LO1: Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of how organisation theory, approaches, and concepts studied underpin management practice.
LO2: Critically appraise the practical applications of these concepts and theories.
LO3: Analyse management practice and popular representations of organisation using relevant approaches and theories from the module.
Task:
Critically evaluate how teamworking, along with one other Management & Organisation (M&O) concept, can influence organisational effectiveness.
The literature shows that effective teamworking enhances organisational performance across both task and relationship dimensions. However, poorly managed teamworking can decrease effectiveness. Modern interventions such as positive employee experience and flexible working have enhanced engagement and satisfaction, impacting team performance. The challenge is to maximise benefits while minimising challenges.
Reflect briefly on HOW your M&O group worked during the presentation. Focus on process, not content. Examples include:
communication methods
motivation
developing shared understanding
team culture
inclusion and participation
Use:
Teamworking, and
One other M&O concept such as:
culture, motivation, communication, perception, change, etc.
(Do NOT use leadership)
Evaluate how these two concepts can:
Positively influence organisational effectiveness
Minimise potential challenges
Provide one example for each concept (teamworking and your second concept).
Requirements:
Maximum three sentences each
Use local Singapore organisations or personal/work/media examples
Do NOT use global companies such as Apple, Google, or Amazon
Marks may be deducted for lengthy examples
Use textbooks and peer-reviewed journals
Avoid Wikipedia, consultancy websites, and non-academic sources
Maintain a critical approach, avoid descriptive writing and “theory dumping”
State which additional M&O concept you will discuss alongside teamworking.
Reflect on the process of group functioning.
Critically evaluate:
Teamworking
Your chosen M&O concept
Discuss how they influence organisational effectiveness and mitigate challenges.
You may discuss them separately or integrate them.
Include one example per concept, each max three sentences.
Provide practical recommendations for a local organisation on how to apply the two concepts to strengthen performance and effectiveness.

Quality of examples
Structure and clarity
Referencing accuracy
Overall coherence
Critically evaluate teamworking plus one other M&O concept (e.g., culture, motivation, communication, perception, change).
Reflect briefly on how the group worked (process-focused: communication, motivation, shared understanding, inclusion).
Provide one brief example (max three sentences) for each concept using local Singapore organisations or personal/media examples (no global firms).
Use peer-reviewed literature and textbooks, adopt a critical approach (no theory-dumping), Harvard referencing, 10–15 citations recommended.
Structure: Introduction (100w), Group reflection (≈200w), Critical evaluation (≈1300w), Examples, Recommendations (≈200w), Conclusion (≈100w), Module reflection (≈100w).
Formatting: 2,000 words, 1.5 spacing, font size 12, online individual submission.
Clarify task & select second concept
Mentor reviewed the brief with the student, confirmed scope (teamworking + one other concept) and helped select organisational culture as the complementary concept because it links directly to team dynamics and effectiveness.
Plan & structure
Mentor mapped the required word allocations to each section and produced an outline matching the recommended structure to ensure balance and coverage of all assessment criteria.
Scaffold the Group Reflection
Mentor prompted process-focused questions (How did you communicate? How were roles negotiated? How was inclusion managed?) and coached the student to write a concise, critical 200-word reflection that avoided description and focused on process strengths/weaknesses.
Literature selection & critical synthesis
Mentor provided a shortlist of 12 academic sources (textbooks + peer-reviewed articles) and modeled how to critically appraise and integrate evidence rather than summarise theory, avoiding theory dumping.
Write the Critical Evaluation
Mentor guided the student to evaluate teamworking and culture both separately and interactively, using evidence to show positive influences and potential pitfalls, and to propose mitigation strategies supported by literature.
Prepare examples
Mentor reviewed two local Singapore examples and edited them down to three sentences each to meet the requirement and tie them to the theoretical arguments.
Recommendations & conclusion
Mentor helped draft practical, evidence-based recommendations for a local organisation and a concise conclusion that synthesised key themes.
Module reflection & referencing
Mentor coached the student to reflect on primary learnings (≈100 words) and ensured all references followed Harvard style with 10–15 academic citations.
Outcome achieved & learning objectives covered (brief)
