The published assessment plan requires you, the apprentice, to write a strategic business proposal after you have gone through gateway, and to submit a 500-word briefing document at Gateway which summarises your strategic business proposal’s title, subject and scope. The duration of the strategic business proposal should be a maximum of 12 weeks and requires you to also gain Board (or Senior Manager) approval within this timeline. Whilst your strategic business proposal does not need to be fully implemented during the EPA period, it must be a comprehensive strategic business proposal that will enable full implementation at an appropriate time for your organisation. Typical examples of a strategic business proposal include, but are not limited to:

• Needing to review and/or implement a 3-year change plan to improve sustainability within your organisation and/or area of responsibility

• Creating a growth plan that focuses on your organisation’s next financial year and how you propose to take the business forward by increasing profits and customers

• Needing to implement a direct saving (e.g. percentage decrease in direct costs, reduction in headcount) across your area of responsibility following a reforecast activity

• A strategic investment in a significant corporate initiative that will have long term benefits to your organisation

• Responding to a change in legislation and/or process that will have a significant impact on your area of responsibility

The timeline within Part 2 can be in any format and all dates must be within the period between gateway being approved and your agreed submission date.
