CASE STUDY

Fiona Rose is a 64-year-old indigenous woman who lives with her husband, their daughter and 2 grandchildren. She has a history of DM type 2, mild asthma and was a smoker for many years.

Her husband has just come back from a business trip and seems to have brought with him some mild illness, which has been passed on to Fiona.

Fiona has had increased shortness of breath of late, with cold like symptoms such as a sore throat, runny nose, and cough. Fiona is off her food with this cold as nothing seems to taste the same and has occasional nausea and vomiting.

She has increased her preventative asthma medications but thought she should go to the Doctor in case she needed antibiotics as she is susceptible to frequent chest infections.

The doctor conducted a sputum culture, bloods and nasal swab to test for any signs of infection and suggested that given her past history that she be hospitalised as a precautionary measure. The results have come back positive for Covid-19.
