• Trace the market structure (perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly, monopolistic competition) and market outcomes (industry growth, pricing, profitability, product quality/variety, number of firms, market size so on) in recent years Now think about how the COVID-shock is likely to impact these sectors in the short term and long term.
• Analyse potential demand and supply impact
• Will a different industry structure emerge?
• What would be the impact on profit margins?
• How would the government regulate these industries?
• Would technology be a game-changer for the industry you have chosen?
• You may take examples of 1 or 2 firms in the industry (an incumbent or a new entry) to explain how they have coped or not coped with changes in government policies, import competition, exchange rate movements so on.
• Report word limit – 2000 words
• The report should consist of sections such as introduction, objectives, data analysis, key insights, prospects and key recommendations.
• The depth of analysis, applications of micro/macroeconomic concepts, use of data/graphs, and clarity of thought in writing will determine the grade.
