For this assignment, assume that you are an independent sustainability consultant. Your client is Universal Group plc and they have won a contract to design, build, fund and operate four new schools for a city council. Universal is a forward-thinking company and they have asked you to advise them on innovative and sustainable methods of construction for this project. You must make assumptions about the geographic location, the nature of the climate and ground conditions, and what buildings (if any) currently occupy the sites. State your assumptions in your introductory slide.

Task

Provide a presentation with commentary notes about an innovation that could be used to help achieve ONE of the following objectives:
Either

• provide foundations for the buildings.

or

• provide the external envelope for the buildings.

Your chosen innovation could be a building material, a component or a complete element.

Your presentation slides should:

1. identify, explain, and critically assess key issues relating to the following:

• innovation
• sustainability
• environmental impact.

2. provide a conclusion that critically appraises the value you think the chosen innovation can bring to this project in particular and to the construction industry in general;

3. provide appropriate references;
Your presentation notes should include comments on sustainability, environmental impact and whether you think your chosen innovation will be an improvement over more traditional methods of construction.

Presentation guidance should:
• have one slide for a cover/title page;
• have between six and eight content slides;
• include one or more slides for references;
• use images, tables, charts and/or graphs throughout where appropriate to convey information;
• keep most of your text in the commentary notes, not on the slides.
