In this assignment, you will research a social challenge and use the first stage of the Design Thinking process to create a problem statement that will be used for further analysis and solution development in Assignment 2B: Creative solution and value proposition pitch . Think of these two assignment pieces as combining to form one coherent report. For this assignment, you will identify the customers and, using empathy maps, design personas that will lead to the identification of the customers' pains and gains they wish to achieve.
Assignment Details
Step 1: Consider the following social challenge: People re-entering the job market after career interruptions During an average lifetime, a person is likely to experience 3-7 careers (UQ, 2023). These career transitions may involve interruptions in one’s employment, and most certainly in career progression (also indicated by dropping wages/income) (Apollo Technical, 2023). Career interruptions may be voluntary or involuntary, but regardless of the reason, these have a (usually negative) impact on how job seekers are perceived after the interruptions in the job market (Smith, 2020; Smith and Johnson, 2022).
Currently, we are experiencing economic changes in Australia and globally, causing fluctuation in terms of people entering and exiting the job market (World Economic Forum, 2023). Major challenges include skills shortages, rapidly growing technology related skill requirements, sustainability in skillsets, readiness for green jobs and AI (Esposto, 2016; Bourlioufa, 2023).
Step 2: Carefully read this case study and conduct some background research into the social issue. The supporting resources section at the end of the Assignment details tab includes some sources to start you off in your research of this social issue.
Step 3: Describe the users you have identified who have been impacted by the social issue. Using the Empathy map template.
Step 4: Use the Value proposition canvas (Strategyzer, 2018) as a tool to identify the customer's job, pains, and gains of this social issue (refer to 3.4 Customer profiles and empathy mapping.
Step 5: Complete the customer profile as per the following sample structure. Please refer to the marking guide for more information on what should be included in each section and for the requirements for presentation, use of literature and referencing.
