Sunderland Council is a small shire operating in regional Australia. The Shire is responsible for:

  • animal and local laws
  • community and family services 
  • customer service for residents
  • emergency management
  • the environment and health
  • planning and building
  • rates and valuations 
  • roads and infrastructure
  • waste management
  • emergency water supply

Sunderland Council employs 78 employees on a full-time basis. Some operations such as maintenance works are contracted to other providers. Operations are conducted from a central office and two smaller offices. Employees also conduct business from a number of other sites including the local health centre and senior citizens’ centre, in the homes of families and on various roads. Sunderland Council needs a comprehensive risk management plan that covers the entire organisation.

Sunderland Council has four main operational departments: 

  • Tourism and Economic Development including a Tourism Information Centre 
  • Community Services including home and community care and children and maternal health services 
  • Customer service 
  • Assets and Development including building and planning It also has two other units:
  • Finance, including accounts and payroll 
  • Records management 

There are risks associated with the activities conducted by each of these areas.

Sunderland Council is planning a special week of celebrations to commemorate the town’s 100-year anniversary. Beginning with an outdoor, 4 hours, 6pm to 10pm, “Family Concert” at the local Cricket/Football grounds. The covered 500 seat grandstand at the grounds will face a “Temporary” 20-metre-long and 12-metre-deep stage, erected in the centre area of the grounds. The concert performers will gather behind the stage area, prior to their performance. Behind the stage area, there will be the availability of Dressing Rooms, “Vans” for the performers to get ready in.

The grass areas alongside the grandstand and facing the stage will also be used for residents to sit and watch the performances.

It is planned to be an Alcohol/Drug-free concert and open to all residents including children, of the shire, tickets will be issued for entry. The tickets will be offered from $5 each for grassed areas to $10 each for the covered Grandstand. Bookings and payment can be made via the council website, 1 month prior to the event. Ticket sales will be restricted to a maximum of 5000, 400 in the grandstand (with 100 reserved seats for dignitaries) and 4500 in the grassed areas.
