Ever since Mick bought Bogan Building & Plumbing four months ago, he knew that he would spend the next few years focusing on continually brainstorming   improvements, and then implementing those ideas, and systems, into each department. His goals right now are all about seeing this business flourish so that he can experience more financial freedom to do the things he has only ever dreamed about.Although his mind is always full of things he could do, and improve, there are a couple of issues that Mick thought would be a good place to start including communication between departments.Communication between departments at Bogan Building & Plumbing had never been a point of excellence for the company.Firstly, there didn’t seem to be any unity amongst the different teams. The workers in the call centre barely knew the names of his tradesmen, and the women in the office seemed to have an unproductive competitive attitude towards the workers in the call centre As well as this, there didn’t seem to be any systems in how to deliver messages to communicate with other departments. Often Amy would just poke her head into the workshop and let the team know if they had an appointment booked.With this lack of teamwork and systemic communication, messages were often mysteriously lost, miscommunication was common, and a general idea of where the company was heading didn’t seem to be at the forefront of anyone’s minds. He knew, as a result, there had been situations where leads had not been followed up, and appointments had been forgotten.Mick needed to figure out a way to bring the company together and get them to start strategizing some communication systems so that relaying messages and updating calendars was simple and effective.But that was only one area in need of improvement! With all the different departments and interdependencies, services and systems, there was room for improvement everywhere he looked! Rather than attempt to fix one thing at a time without much thought as to how, Mick has realised that he actually needs a system so that improvements can become a normal part of the company culture.At this stage there are no processes or systems to implement change within the company and improve different areas. Mick really wants to establish a detailed continuous improvement system so that he can address these areas in a methodical manner. Mick is also passionate about allowing his employees to assist with improving the aspects of the company they are directly involved in. He wants them to feel a sense of ownership over the changes and get excited about their ideas.
