Report Writing Assignment:

Abstract Being unemployed for a period longer than a year is considered to be “long term unemployment”. Findings suggest that visible problems arising from long term unemployment are economic breakdown (not having enough disposable money) and degradation in physical health. Other impacts, for example mental health issues such as depression and ultimate loss of future income expectation are also caused, but may not be as evident as the latter. Emphasis is given on the need for government to create adequate employment opportunities and importance of implementing actions at early stage itself as the problems seem to worsen with time. Introduction: The International Labour Organization (as cited in Stankunas, Kalediene, Starkuviene Kapustinskiene, 2006) considers any individual who has been out of work for more than 12 months to be “long term unemployed”. From 2009 to 2013, 40% of the total unemployed population of the world had been without a job for more than a year (Nichols, Mitchell & Linder, 2013).The span of complications arising from long term unemployment affects numerous aspects such as economic, social, communal and physical wellbeing of an individual or a community. This report aims to investigate the economic and health problems arising due to being jobless for more than a year and to recommend possible solutions to dilute the impacts caused by these problems.
