An Introduction to this Unit
This unit develops a student’s knowledge and problem-solving skills utilising a palliative approach when caring for individuals and their families who are experiencing life limiting illness. Case histories featuring a lifespan approach and that address the National Health Priority Areas will be used to illuminate the palliative approach as a model of care. Students will explore the benefits of a palliative approach when supporting dying individuals with any life\ limiting illness. Students will also acquire the capabilities to develop self-care strategies to manage their own grief, loss and stress associated with working in a palliative setting.
Outcome
The Participation Tasks require you to:
- Access, read and/or view the modules of prescribed resources in the Learning Materials folder on vUWS. Often these resources will be a mixture of video case studies, fact sheets or institutional policies or documents. - Complete prescribed tasks under the Assessment Zone on vUWS. Often this is a mixture of quiz questions that focus on checking your understanding of the case studies, definitions of key terms, understanding the main concepts presented in the module of learning materials for the week or self-reflection questions.
- Each task may include a different number of questions, and each question within the tasks is scored differently. This recognises the different levels of complexity for the different question types. Please read the instructions carefully for each question as there is only one correct answer for each question. To obtain a full mark for a question you must answer the full question correctly.
- Students must access and attempt all five quizzes. There are two attempts for each task before the due date. - From the two attempts your best mark will be included in your final grade.
- Each participation task is worth 2%. All five participation task scores are combined for a total score for this assess ment. If you do not access and attempt each of the five quizzes, you are at risk of a FNS grade.
- Each of the five participation tasks will be opened from 1st March, 2021 at 0900 hours.
- You are strongly encouraged to attempt the participation task early in the assessment period to avoid or resolve any unforeseen difficulties.
Assessment Instructions
1. You have 30 minutes to complete your online participation task assessment, unless otherwise specified.
2. You must complete the participation task in one complete sitting.
3. Once you begin the participation task the quiz timer is activated as soon as you start
4. After 30 minutes the participation task will automatically close and only the questions attempted up to that
